You don't have to quit social media to join the IndieWeb. With POSSE, you publish a post on your own blog first, and then automatically push a copy of it out to social networks to reach your audience.
Webmentions: The decentralized comment section
Instead of a centralized database of comments, IndieWeb sites use Webmentions. If someone writes a response to your blog post on their own blog, their server sends a notification to your server, and their comment appears on your site.
