A colophon is a small note describing how something was made. Printed books have used them for centuries, and they fit the web just as well.
What to include
- The tools, frameworks, and hosting the site runs on
- The fonts and where they came from
- Credits for images, icons, and borrowed code
- When the site was started and last updated
Why it matters
A colophon tells visitors a real person is behind the page. It also gives credit where it is due and helps curious builders understand how a site was put together.
Keep it short
A colophon does not need to be a manifesto. A few honest lines, linked from the footer, are enough to make a website feel more human.
